Um arquivo, doze documentos

VINCULUM collaborates in the exhibition titled “Um arquivo, doze documentos” (One archive, twelve documents), held in the National Library of Portugal, from May 2021 to April 2022.

Alice Borges Gago is the exhibition curator. The extensive work done on the Almada e Lencastre Bastos for her PhD, awarded with the Alberto Sampaio History Award 2020, is the basis for this initiative.

The Almada e Lencastre Bastos family archive is one of the largest archives held in the Portuguese National Library. Also one of the largest archives of this specific type so far known, it is composed of several  documentary holding that span from the XIV to the XX century, and came to enter in the latest major sets,  the Almada Melo and the Pereira Forjaz Coutinho family archives.

The goal of this initiative is to highlight the historical and archival importance of this practically unknown archive, by presenting visitors with a selection of twelve documents in monthly display and by publishing the exhibition catalog.
