The Post-Graduation in Historical Archivistics offers theoretical and practical training in an innovative and emerging field of knowledge that promotes an interdisciplinary approach between History, Information Science and Archival Studies. The main objective of this course is to train specialists in the acquisition and / or deepening of knowledge that provides them with the necessary tools to understand archives – understood as memory institutions and documentary sets – as complex social, political and cultural constructions that are organically linked the historical evolution of their producing entities.

The Post-Graduation in Historical Archivistics will take place over two semesters at NOVA FCSH. The first semester has a theoretical and practical nature and is composed of six academic curricular units (three compulsory units and three optional units within a set of six options). The second semester is of a practical nature and consists of a Project in Historical Archivistics and a Project Tutorial Seminar. Students can choose one of two options regarding the Project: 1) an internship in a public or private archive or 2) a written essay comprising the study and archival treatment of an archive. In both options, students will be tutored by the course’s teaching staff.

This Post-Graduation is aimed at recent graduates, researchers, professionals from memory institutions or any member of the community who wishes to obtain in-depth and innovative knowledge on this field of knowledge. The knowledge acquired in the Post-Graduation in Historical Archivistics can be applied in the pursuit of graduate degrees, in research, or in the study, treatment and description of archives owned by memory institutions or by private organizations or individuals.
